It is my great delight to announce a Watch of the Naval Romance for next Sunday (unless I get a lot of yelling that that only suits latin_cat and Yours truly - quiet down in the back there!) at 3pm British Summer Time/16:00 hours European Summer Time.

I'd offer Saturday but the Latinate One and I are going to be pretty darn busy all day then, and I won't be around/compos mentis any earlier on the Sunday.

(Time Zone converter here (set for London and wherever you're located)

Edit... Can't seem to add a poll on an edit, but I'm not sure if that's because I have a free journal rather than a paid one, or if you just can't edit in a poll.

I was reminded that next week is the final of the Football World Cup and Wimbledon - I am not a sporty person.

So pick a day:
Next Sunday (the 15th)
Saturday the 21st
Sunday the 22nd
Some other day during the week

By common consent, the next Watch is scheduled to be Here on Saturday the 15th November 2014 at 8:00pm (20:00 hours) GMT/UTC. Cue up your DVD to the main menu and make sure 'play feature' is the option selected, them prepare to press play when the countdown timer reaches zero. (Unfortunately I can't embed the timer into this post because DW doesn't allow Javascript or iframes to be embedded.)

This is the master post for all comments, chatter and general squeeage generated during this Watch.

It's been suggested that we hold another Watch of the film Master and Commander soon, at mandc_watch. So far, the most popular date/time seems to be Saturday the 15th November at 8:00pm GMT/UTC. If you are interested in taking part, it will be at the time and date specified, unless it turns out that most people can't make that date or time.

Apparently the weekend of the 13th/14th November is the anniversary of when Master & Commander first was shown, and as there will not be a Read at mandc_read that weekend, it was suggested we have a Watch instead.

I personally find it difficult to be around before about 4:00 pm on Sundays, while Saturdays are fine. So, let me know which day you would prefer (Saturday the 13th or Sunday the 14th November) and which time would suit you - if you are not in GMT, could you also please give me the UTC/GMT equivalent, as I may well not know how far ahead/behind GMT your particular time-zone is).

Also if you could let me know whether you'd prefer to watch the Naval Romance itself, or the deleted scenes (or even both, which is quite possible provided we start early enough...) that would be good, too.

latin_cat and I have thought it's been so long since we last had a Watch of the Naval Romance that we would like to call one this Saturday at 3:00pm (1500) BST, or 2:00pm (1400) GMT.

That is: 4:00pm Central European Summer Time or
10:00am Eastern Daylight Time.

Announcing a Watch of the Naval Romance in two weeks' time! Roll up, roll up! mandc_watch will be hosting a Grand Showing of the Naval Romance, also known as Master & Commander: the Far Side of the World on Saturday the 13th April at 8 pm British Summer Time, which is 9 pm European time or 3pm EST.

When: Saturday 13th April, 7:00pm GMT and UTC/8:00pm BST/9:00pm European time/3:00pm EST (can't work out every permutation of this, sorry!)

The best time and date for the next Watch.

I just want to do a quick survey-ish type thing to work out when would be a good time to hold the next Watch?

I can't do anything this weekend (it'd be really short notice anyway!) because I'm away from Friday to Saturday and I won't be taking the laptop.)

Also, I think - and correct me if I'm wrong - that the weekend after is Thanksgiving, which probably means that US fans would be too busy to join in.

So, my thinking is that the first weekend of December is probably the earliest we could do it. Or we could have a mid-week Watch if people would like?

What sort of time would suit you guys best? I'd prefer it in the evening, with a start time of 7:30 or 8:00pm GMT (8:30 or 9:00 pm European). But would that be too early or too late for you?

Thoughts?

As you have all finished reading Master and Commander, and I have a free Saturday...

There will be a Watch of Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World this weekend at mandc_watch. Come and join us!

Starting at 7:00pm GMT (unless the vast majority of you tell me to do it later - or earlier!), we will all put on the DVD and join in with the squee, comments and other appropriate fannish noises.

7:00 pm GMT = 8:00pm BST, or 9:00pm for those in Europe (apart from anyone in Portugal, who are the same as Britain) or 3:00pm EST (I think - please correct me if I'm wrong!)

Just a quick intro, for those of you who don't know mandc_watch. This is a community for watching the film Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World. I have made a mirror to the LJ original with permission from grace_poppy, who had the original idea. Thanks, grace_poppy!

The idea is that we all dig out our copy of the film and watch it in sync - all at once, all over the world. And comment on it here.
